What happened in here?

Gosh, I love my job and even more, I love the readers I get to work alongside. Today at the end of the day, I was working with a few readers to get their backpacks ready for Spring Break, full of books they are dying to jump into and read. They were all excited and buzzing with plans about which book to read first, who they will call to tell about their books, and how they can't wait to share them when they come back. Needless to say, the library was buzzing with positive reading power!

On their way out of the library one reader stopped dead in their tracks and said "Whoa! Mrs. Funke, what happened in here? I just realized this but, their are no books on these shelves, it looks crazy! Maybe the Snatchabook has been here for real!" (Now, let me preface with, if you have not read the amazing book The Snatchabook...you must! Adorable, uplifting, and empowering for readers!) This reader stole my heart today. Not only was he so flabbergasted that our books were gone but that his focus on his own reading life really led him to missing the fact that our shelves truly are bare. This is a fabulous time of the year, Spring Break. The shelves are bare, with the hope that readers are living the life of stories, fantasies, characters, and adventures while they are away! The shelves are bare the their minds are full...that is what reading is all about and I love that I get to share these books with our readers at Lincoln! :)

Blogging...learning as I go!!!

How in the world do I begin this amazing world of blogging? Let's start by telling a little bit about myself. My name is Colbi Funke, my students call me Mrs. Funke (the perfect librarian name, right!?). I am a mom to my precious little girl, Briar, and if you ask my students...I talk about her often! I love life and my job, did I mention that I LOVE reading!? I spend tons of times thinking about my kids, my readers, and their passions; their passions are my passions! :) I cannot wait to share things about me, my job, my readers, and our passions!!! Thanks for joining me on this journey!!!
Roar...Briar has the Lion spirit in her heart!!!!
